The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery/International Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS/IBHRS) is the largest worldwide entity to have established standards for certification for education, training and experience in Hair Restoration Surgery. Physicians who are eligible to apply for ABHRS/IBHRS certification have demonstrated the accumulation of significant experience in the field of Hair Restoration Surgery and have all shown a commitment to high standards of training and education. Those who have achieved certification have demonstrated advanced knowledge in the art and science of hair restoration through peer-reviewed examination. While there is currently no American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) certification specific to hair restoration, the ABHRS/IBHRS is the only certification recognized by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, the largest hair restoration educational organization in the world. Please visit our website at www.abhrs.org.
After several years of consideration by the Board of Governors followed by ratification by the membership of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), the designation of Fellow has been established in order to recognize members who meet its exceptional educational criteria. In order to be considered, the hair restoration surgeon must achieve a specific level of points in a system of various educational parameters such as serving in leadership positions, American Board of Hair Resotration (ABHRS) certification, writing of scientific papers and/or teaching at scientific programs, among others.
It is a great honor for a member to achieve the Fellow designation of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (FISHRS). This recognizes the surgeon who strives for excellence in this specialized field. To maintain this status, the surgeon must continue to meet established educational criteria over time.
